A Sea of Red….and Bye Bye Butterflies!

Wow, today was busy!  We started the day by being welcomed by 9 butterflies flying around their hutch.  The kids were really excited to see them all fluttering around.

We also changed into our red t-shirts for today's Sky Art.  We'd like to send a HUGE thank you to the Brooksbank PAC for purchasing all of our red shirts.  It felt really special to be part of the Brooksbank family!

It was tricky to find our friends at recess time because everyone was wearing the same shirt!

The arrival of the fire truck.  This is where the artist was stationed to take photos of our creation.

We heard some opening words and sang O' Canada.  It was a HOT day and we did our very best to stay in the shade as much as possible.

On our way to join the other 2300 kids on the field, we chatted with an RCMP Constable.  He told us all about his uniform.  We thought we were hot in our t-shirts and shorts.  Imagine how hot he felt!

Here we are assembling inside the outline that was on the field.  All the different schools were in different colored t-shirts…making up different sections of the image.

...getting ready, doing a practice run so the artist can see if we need to make any changes.

So, the artist was up at the top of the fire truck's ladder and there was a drone flying overhead taking photos and videos of the process.  It's hard to believe that there are 2300 people gathered together here. Tomorrow, we walk back up to Sutherland to see the final project.  The artist has gathered images and video from a variety of sources and will put them all together tonight to share with us tomorrow.  I'm so excited to see it!

When we came back inside, we were all very hot and thirsty.  The kids all drank a lot of water and we turned the lights off and watched a movie.  After lunch we finished the movie and had a popsicle to help us cold down again….sometimes, you just need a popsicle!

At the end of the day today, we released our butterflies.  We walked up to the garden behind the school and opened the hutch.  The butterflies were eager to go.  Sometimes they let us hold them on our fingers.  Not today!  These guys wanted to fly and explore the garden.

Once again, we are walking up to Sutherland in the morning.  We will be leaving right after the bell, so please try to arrive on time tomorrow.

Thanks!
