A Very Busy Monday

Today, before recess, I asked everyone to put his/her coat on (something that we do every day).  Now, normally, I have to zip up numerous coats and remind several kids to put a coat on.  Today, when I looked at the line up, everyone had a coat on and each kid zipped/buttoned his/her own coat.  I didn't help anyone!!!  We took a moment to celebrate!!!

This student remembered that we had been enjoying books by Oliver Jeffers.  He brought one of his books from home and we read it together after snack time.  There were quite a few kids in the class who are very familiar with this book already (and they helped me read it to the class!).  I found three more Oliver Jeffers books (Lost and Found, Up and Down and The Incredible Book Eating Boy) in our library.  We will read them tomorrow.  If you have any other Oliver Jeffers books in your collections at home, we'd love to borrow them (we promise to take very good care!)

Some more line up pictures…
We were working on printing the number 4 today and one student noticed that when he crossed his legs while standing up it made the same #4 shape.  So, of course we all had to give it a try!  Our poem for the number 4 is "down and across and down once more, that's the way to make a 4!".  Ask your child to show you how we print 4s.

In gym today, we worked through 4 stations.  There are lots of photos, I wanted to capture each child trying our the different stations…

We explored bucket walkers, scoops and balls, bouncing balls and hula hoops.
Take a look…..

Finally, it looks like we are in for some rain for the remainder of the week.  Please send rain gear with your child even if it looks like a dry day in the morning.  Also, please make sure that your child has enough layers to keep him/her warm under the rain gear.  I also request that umbrellas do not come to school.  They can be quite unsafe around the playground as kids run and play.  Hoods and raincoats are  much safer.  Thank you!

This is also a great time to remind you that your child need to have a complete change of clothes at school.  With rainy weather, we often need dry socks/pants and even shirts.  Please make sure that everything is labeled and that the bag is able labeled and hung on your child's coat hook.  Thanks!

Stuck

Today, we read a story called "Stuck" by one of our favorite author/illustrators, Oliver Jeffers.  This is the story of a boy who has unfortunate luck.  His kite gets stuck in a tree.  To solve his problem, he decides to throw his shoe to unstick his kite…well, let's just say it doesn't end there.

This is the last page of the book, but it feels like there should be more to the story.  After the story, we went on to draw in our journals and some of us decided to tell what might happen after the last page.  Here are some of our journal entries.  Pretty awesome!

Have a great weekend!
