Fun at the Farm!

We were so lucky to have the chance to visit Loutet Farm today.

on our way

We met Jillian at the entrance gate and she introduced us to 2 farm volunteers.

We moved to a larger area and played a little game.

Then we split up into two groups and explored different parts of the farm.
One group learned how to prepare the garden for winter.

One group learned about composting.

Some of us collected leaves and filled 2 wheel barrows full of leaves.

Some of us noticed that the leaves at the bottom of the pile felt warmer than those at the top of the pile.

Some of us tasted some kale.

We learned about composting and looked at some soil that was made through composting.

After gathering more leaves, we worked hard to spread the leaves over the garden beds to keep them warm for the winter.

About 5 minutes before it was time to leave, we switched groups.

The composting group had a chance to gather and spread some leaves.

The other group discovered some chickweed and got to pick a piece and taste it.

What a great time we had a the farm.  If you have the chance, take a walk with your child and look in on the farm and ask your child what he/she learned today.
