Measuring EVERYTHING!

Here are our morning building photos of the day.  I know it feels very repetitive to look at these types of photos every day.  Every now and then I say to myself, "I'm not going to take photos of the morning building today" but the kids won't let that happen.  They are always so excited to share their creations, and having a photo to document the "work" makes the clean up process much easier!  So, thanks for bearing with us….be prepared to see many more photos like this before the end of June!

ooooohhhh, moms, this is a little sneak peak of something special that we're working on!

Then, after recess, we worked on more measurement.  Miss C gave individuals or partner groups (the kids chose how they wanted to work today, alone or with a buddy) 2 pieces of string.  One was red and one was green.  They had to work around the classroom, measuring items to find things that were longer than the red string and shorter than the green one.  Everybody had strings of different lengths.  When they found some items, they were challenged to come and try 2 new strings that were closer in length, so the measurement had to be very precise.  There was lots of conversation using math vocabulary amongst the groups…words like: longer, shorter, equal, same, less, more, greater.  What a fun and engaging way to practice our measurement skills and to practice using math vocabulary in context!

It's a bit tricky to see the strings in the photos, but I'm sure you can see what we were up to!

Please look in your child's home envelope this evening.  We are going to be starting a unit on Family in the next little while and there is a bit of homework to do first.  The paper is bright pink, you can't miss it!
