Arrival Activities

As you know, one of our morning routines is to come together at the carpet and play with the toys that have been put out.  These are often toys that aren't chosen during our free play centre time.  They are toys that encourage cooperative play.  I believe this play time, first thing in the morning is an important part of our day.  It allows the kids to engage socially with one another, talking about the previous evening's activities, talking about what they are looking forward to today, sharing stories.  It also allows children time to adjust to being in the classroom.  They can choose how they wish to interact.  Some will want to work with a group right away.  Some will choose to find a quiet corner and have some alone time.  Some will move from group to group, chatting and playing with a variety of classmates.  Some will seek out an adult to chat with.  Today, everyone was really engaged in his/her chosen activity.  Over the course of the year, the play looks different.  Today, all of the kids were working with at least one other classmate.  The interactions were all positive and focused.

Every day, the kids ask me to take photos of their creations before they have to clean up.  Today was no exception.  Take a look at all of our hard work!
