Math Centres

As I went through all of the previous photos of our forest walk and journey stick building, I noticed that the only photos of one of our classmates were blurry.  So, today, we headed out to take some clear photos.  Here they are....

We started something new today.  Math Centres are a chance for us to work together with a small group of a number (pun intended!) of different math concepts.  Today, we explored number (counting) and patterning.  Over the course of the week, each student will have a chance to visit each of the 4 centres.  Today, we spent time at our first centre.

Here, the kids are rolling a die and covering the corresponding number on the apple tree until all of the numbers are covered.

Here, the kids are putting together number puzzles, finding all the ways to show each number and grouping them together.

Here, the kids are working together to match crayons (with different numbers of coloured dots) together with the crayon box that has the matching number.

And finally, at this centre, the kids take a pattern card and extend the pattern using pattern blocks.  Some of the patterns are simple and some are very complex.

Here we are in action.....

Come and take a look at our Journey Sticks, they are displayed in the hallway.  Today, the kids have been telling me the story of their stick.  These should be printed out and added to our display very soon!
