Earthquake Drill

Today, we had our first earthquake drill.  We learned where to go to be safe and we practiced "duck, cover, hold".

One of our classmates explained where we should go if there are no tables to go under.  She said we should go up against an inside wall.

Another of our classmates explained plate tectonics to us and explained why earthquakes happen (!)

Another classmate told us that "Fransansico" gets lots of earthquakes and that the rocks under the ground wiggle when earthquakes happen.

These kids really have a wealth of information about so many subjects!

Here we are practicing our "duck, cover, hold" under our tables.

The kids did a super job and took it very seriously.

Our last math centre photos of the week.

A very proud group after a lot of counting!

I'd like to introduce Ms Nicole Harstone.  She is a teacher candidate (formerly know as a student teacher) from UBC who will be with us this year.  She will be here next Thursday and then for 2 weeks starting on Oct. 31.  We are so excited to welcome her to our classroom.  Please say hello to her when you see her next week.

Have a fantastic weekend.  Remember that tomorrow is a Professional Development Day (no school for students).
