Bits and Pieces

We had a busy day today. As usual, we started the day building and drawing.  As the year progresses, I love to look at how the building and working together evolves.

Kids are challenging themselves to use the materials in new and interesting ways.

Some are now following instruction guides to build new things (this is a chair, couch and table made of blocks, created by referring to the instruction booklet)

2 kids worked on this, an extreme game of Jenga!

During centre time, some of us have been using some new sets that relate to some of the stories we've been reading lately.  This set allows kids to recreate the story of the three little pigs and problem solve to build the strongest structure.

This one recreates the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Kids use these velcro covered blocks to build a bridge high enough for the troll to fit under and strong enough for the goats to cross.

This set recreates the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Kids can build beds and chairs and retell the story.

Everybody is eager to have a turn with these new sets.  If your child hasn't had a chance yet, they will get a chance next week.

We had a visit from the City Librarian today.  She told us all about the Summer Reading Program that takes place at all public libraries.

This brochure came home in home envelopes this afternoon.

Here are some of the books that fit the theme of traveling.

This is what the recording sheet looks like.

This afternoon, we had our final ribbon assembly.  It was great to celebrate all of our successes.

We stood up when our ribbons were called.  Here is the 40km group.
