Back in Business (and Farm Visit Tomorrow)

Here are the photos of Ms Jessica's visit to our class today (see the previous post for more information)

We found Canada on the globe, and noticed that we live on the West Coast of Canada.

We looked at the Canucks Logo and saw that it had a picture of an orca whale on it.

We looked at an image of a wolf and talked about where else we have seen art like this. (Some kids remember seeing similar images at Stanley Park)

We compared the wolf image to the butterfly image on the drum.  And we learned how to say the names of these animals in the Squamish language.

Here is a picture of a thunderbird.  Ms Jessica told the legend of the thunderbird whose perch is high atop Black Tusk.  Long ago the people of the area were so hungry because a greedy orca whale was eating all of the salmon in the waters nearby.  The thunderbird decided to teach the orca a lesson and picked him up and took him to the top of the mountain so that the people would have fish to eat.  We talked about the importance of sharing with one another.

At the end of her visit, Ms Jessica led us in a sharing circle.  We each had the chance to share one important word from our time together today and we each had a turn with the drum.

Tomorrow, we will be visiting Loutet Farm for one last visit.  Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather and wearing shoes that are appropriate for doing some farm work!
