Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break.  The kids came into the classroom today with such energy and enthusiasm for learning.  I can already tell that third term is going to be fantastic! During our arrival activities today, some of the kids decided to see how far they could put the blocks end to end around the classroom.  Then one of the students decided to count the blocks by 1s (such determination!).  When we were ready to clean up, we talked about faster ways to count and decided that counting by 10 is the quickest.  So, once again, we counted groups of 10.  Each student counted out 10 and then marked the 10th block with his/her toe.  We had so many blocks that we ran out of kids and had to ask a couple of stuffies for help!  Then we counted by 10s and found out that we had 217 blocks!!

This got us thinking about our 100th day of school (coming up on Wednesday) and we talked about our "homework" (please see the posting below…I think on March 3rd, for more information).  One student showed us her necklace with 100 beads.  Another student told us that he made a picture of flowers using 100 buttons.  I showed the class that the homework doesn't have to be anything fancy, it can be as simple as putting 100 dots on a piece of paper.
