Happy 100th Day of School!

It has been an exciting day in Division 16!  We celebrated our 100th day of Kindergarten (many students thought that it was also our last day of Kindergarten, so, we had a little talk about that!)

There was a lot going on today and I took A LOT of photos…maybe almost 100 (yikes!)

Thanks for all of your incredible contributions to our visual representation of the number 100.  The projects were amazing; from simple, to elaborate…they all show us different ways to represent 100.  The kids are really enjoying looking at all the projects and talking about the similarities and differences.  I hope I took pictures of them all.  If you'd like a closer look, please come in and check them out.

We started the day with a cooperative activity.  I split the class into three teams and challenged each team to build a structure using 100 cups.  It took a while for some of the teams to figure out how to work together on the task.  In the end, all three teams were successful and managed to build something quite extraordinary!  As the photos below progress, you can see how the teams came together to work on their challenge.

After recess, we made necklaces using fruit loops.  The kids counted out groups of 10 and then made a marker to label the 10s.  If you don't see a photo of your child with his/her necklace, it means that the cereal was eaten before the photo could be taken!

We read some stories about the 100th day of school and we counted and counted and counted!

And finally, one student brought in 100 pretzels and we worked together to figure out how to share the pretzels between 20 students.  We found out that each student would get 5….and then we ate them!

Now, I think it's time to go home for a 100 minute nap!

Thanks again for all your support with the home projects, it's very much appreciated!
