Phew, We've Been Busy!

We've been working really hard on this last day before Spring Break!

During our "Arrival Activities" this morning, one group of students built a really long "snake" of straws and connectors.  We decided that we wanted to count and see how many straws it took to make something that stretched all the way around the classroom. So we got together to estimate how many straws we thought were used.  Then we talked about the best way to count such a big number and we decided to count by 10s.  We used our stuffies to mark the groups of 10 and then counted by 10 to find the actual amount.  Finally, we created a number line to see which estimate was the closest to the actual number.
we were building BIG today!

if you look closely, you can see the straws and connectors snaking around the room and the stuffies marking the groups of 10

the snake continues

all the way around the classroom!

Then, a little later in the day, we made some "positive message rainbows".  The kids drew and cut out their clouds and wrote their names on them.  Then, as a class, we worked together to come up with some positive descriptive words for each other.  It was so lovely to see the kids really thinking about what good qualities their friends have and seeing the smiles on everyone's face.  They are now hanging in the classroom if you'd like to take a look.

And this afternoon, we're off on our walk to Sutherland to watch the Gymnastics Championships.  I will post some photos later…..
