An Incredibly Busy Day!

Wow, did we ever work hard today.  We did printing practice, math centres, we did some alphabet work and some reading practice and then we practiced our letter names, sounds and signs.

Here's a look at our morning building.  There was lots of cooperation and collaboration going on.

Some kids worked on an alphabet puzzle this morning and figured out which picture matched which letter.

Today, we rotated through 4 different math centres.  At this one, the kids counted the objects and wore the corresponding numeral.  Counting practice and number printing practice.

Here, the kids worked on the "counting on" strategy.  There are 2 dice in the snowman's hat, the job is to look at the die with the largest number and then count on from there with the other die to find the total number of dots, then to match the hat with the snowman head with the correct number printed on it.  This was a lot to work on!

Here, the kids worked together to put numbers 1-20 in order and then to match the pictures to the numbers.

Finally, this centre had the kids choosing the largest number from a set of three numbers and printing it in the box, then colouring the largest number.

The next pictures are of the same 4 centres, they just show us rotating through them.

Here is the sign for "cat"

success!

This afternoon, we worked on our alphabet sound booklets and read them together at the carpet.

Some of us wore reading glasses!

Putting the finishing touches on the pictures.

I love it when I see the learning of the day being practiced and reinforced at Centre Time.  This student was matching numerals to pictures independently.  (Be still my heart!)

Here is our graph for today.  Below are the choices and the question.  See if your child can tell you something they learned by reading this graph (which one is the greatest?  which one is the least?  how many people like sunny days best? how many people like snowy days best?  can they show you the short cut so that you don't have to count all of the squares?  these are all things that we talk about at calendar time)
