Photo Overload!

Hello, Happy Tuesday.  I took a LOT of photos today because we had a pretty great day....

Here's a peek at our regular morning building time.

building patterns

We were so lucky to have the opportunity to visit Loutet Farm today!  We will be going for a farm visit almost once a month for the rest of the year (6 times in total).  I would like to take this time to say a big THANK YOU to Brooksbank's Parent Advisory Council (PAC) for funding our visits.  The PAC raises funds every year through lots of fun events and lots of hard work!  This year, they chose to pay to have every Primary class take part in the Loutet garden program.  We are very grateful!

I will let you know ahead of time the next time we are scheduled to go to the Garden.  This visit "snuck up" on me.

Here we are gathered outside the garden, meeting our garden teachers.

This is Thanu and "Figgy" Fiona.

We looked closely at sunflowers today.  We learned that there are tiny flowers in the centre of the sunflower.  The outside flower (the main one that we see) is called a "ray flower" and the tiny flowers in the centre are called "disc flowers". (I learned something new today too!)

One group went off to look more closely at sunflowers and their seeds.

The other groups went off on a rainbow scavenger hunt.

We worked to match colours all around the garden.

Because I was with one group, many of these photos are of the kids in my group.  Sorry that I wasn't able to get photos of everyone in action.

The other group was taking the seeds from the sunflowers and collecting them. It was interesting and it was also really good work for the tiny muscles in our hands that will help us print and draw.

At the end of our time at the garden, we did a big cheer for the seeds!

After we dried out after recess, we worked through our alphabet stations again. This time, we added some patterning to our activities (I know, patterning isn't alphabet work, but that's ok!)

More line practice

Letter recognition, matching and naming

Roll a letter die and then find the matching letter magnet

letter matching on the carpet, this time with lower case letters

I sent an email today letting you know that we will not be doing sharing tomorrow.  We need to catch up on some other stuff before we're ready to move on to D.  Thanks!
