(these guys asked me for lots of pictures today....so here they are!)
a haunted house!
Today we had a visit from Carol and her friends Elmer and Ruff. They all taught us about safety.
Elmer talked about what to do if our ball rolls onto the road (don't go on the road, ask an adult for help).
We learned where it is safe to cross the road. We should cross at an intersection or a crosswalk. Elmer also told us we should use our arms to point in the direction we want to cross because that makes the drivers notice us even more.
We learned about traffic signals and played a game called "red light, green light".
We learned about pedestrian signals too.
Elmer taught us what kinds of things we should wear to stay safe at the skateboard park.
He told us how to walk safely when there is no sidewalk, we should walk facing traffic. He also told us about a game called "sweet and sour" that we can play when walking where there is no sidewalk. When a car approaches, give the driver a wave, if the driver waves back, sweet! If the driver doesn't wave back, sour. This helps the drivers notice us and we can tell if they see us or not.
Elmer also told us that it's a good idea to carry a flashlight so that the cars can see use better at night.
and to wear a reflector so that the cars can see us better.
We also learned that it isn't safe to go between parked cars. We should ask an adult for help when we need it.
Then we met Ruff, a little dog.
Ruff's favourite sound is "click".
He taught us all about seatbelt safety, making sure we hear the "click" sound.
Even adults in the backseat need to make sure to wear their seatbelts.
We also talked about all the people in our community who can help us.
