Today we were so lucky to have Miss Jessica visit us. Miss Jessica is an Aboriginal Education Teacher in our School District. She came in today to share some stories and artifacts with us. She began by speaking to us in the Squamish Language.
Then she told us a story about a mother bear and her two cubs and a very large salmon.
We listened so carefully. Because her story was oral, we didn't have any pictures to look at so we did our best to visualize the story in our minds.
Then Miss Jessica read us a very quick book that had a similar story to the one that she shared with us earlier.
and a Metis sash
this is an abalone shell that was used to link all of the Earth's elements together. The shell represents the ocean, different plants were burned inside the shell (fire and earth) and a feather was used to fan the smoke (the feather represented the sky).
This is sage.
This is sweet grass.
Here is one way to say thank you.
Here is a little pouch that contains tobacco leaves.
Later in the day, Miss Maria revisited the question, "which jar has the most water".
We made predictions and then we poured out all of the jars and made a very interesting discovery.
All 3 jars contained the same amount of water!
Here we are showing our "equal signs".
At Centre Time, we continued to explore our sense of touch by playing with some "goop"
It can feel like a solid and a liquid at the same time….so cool!
