Independence

One of our families shared a recent milestone in their child's life with me yesterday.  One of our classmates decided that she would like to walk into the school on her own in the morning, saying good-bye to family members at the front door of the school.  She felt so proud of herself.

I'm going to ask all families to look for ways to increase independence, especially in the mornings.  The kids know all of our routines and are capable of organizing their belongings and entering the classroom on their own.  As a parent, when you encourage your kids to do for themselves what you know they can do, you are sending the message that you have confidence in them, that you know they can do it!  It's also setting them up for success as they move on to Grade 1.

Happy Independence Day!
