Reminders

Please look in your child's backpack today for this oder form for school supplies for Grade 1.  You do not have to order through Edupac, if you'd rather buy the supplies individually yourself, that is just fine.  Edupac saves a trip to the stationary store and it ensures that you have all of the items that the Grade 1 teachers at Brooksbank are requesting.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am missing field trip forms for 6 students.  Please return the form to me as soon as you can, if you haven't done so already.  There has been a little bit of confusion regarding the cost (sorry about that). Each child will need to pay $5.50.  Any volunteering adults will need to pay $8.00.  Thanks!

Finally, Monday is a Professional Development Day for all of North Vancouver.  There is no school for students.  Teachers and staff will be involved in a variety of workshops.

Have a great weekend, see you all on Tuesday!

Measuring Around The Room

As promised, here we are in action….measuring objects around the classroom using cube blocks.  Such focused, purposeful learning going on!

More Family Time and Beginning Measurement

We started our day sharing our family learning with more family members today.  After some technical difficulties, we were able to watch our video and check out all of our posters.  The kids were so proud! If your family would like to watch the video together at home, you can bring in a memory stick and I can copy the video on to it for you.

We are starting to learn about measurement today.  In Kindergarten, we use "non-standard units" to measure.  We may talk about standard units (cm, km, m etc.) but we will be using others things to explore length and weight and volume.  Today, we are going to measure classroom objects using cube blocks.  Stay tuned for some photos of measurement in action...

Families and Dancing

we learned about another of our families today

Then we had a dance party.  We each took turns coming up with a super cool dance move and everyone else tried to do the move. There are many blurry photos because these kids know how to boogie!

and……pose!

This afternoon, we welcomed our first group of parents and grandparents and siblings into our classroom so that we could share our learning.  Miss Maria shared the video that she made with the kids  and the students were able to show all the work we've been doing in the classroom.  It was a lovely visit and we're looking forward to sharing with more families tomorrow morning (from 8:50-9:20).
