We had a great trip to Loutet Farm this morning. We met with Jillian, the farmer, and Amber, a farm volunteer, and learned all about the farm at this time of year.
We talked about what plants need to grow.
We weeded some chickweed.
We found a special spot in the garden and used our senses to notice different things.
more weeding
we found some "ruby streaks", a type of lettuce that grows at this time of year.
we were allowed to pick one leaf and have a taste
then the two groups switched and the people who were weeding went to look at the garden and eat some ruby streaks lettuce
and the other group helped weed the garden
It was a pleasure to take this group of kids to the farm. They were excellent listeners and nobody complained about the rain!
