Remembrance Day Assembly

We had our Remembrance Day Assembly today (a day early because the teachers who organized it don't work on Fridays).  A big thank you to Mrs. Dolan and Mrs. Kristensen for putting together a wonderfully meaningful and moving ceremony.

We were greeted by students who are part of the guides/scouts.  Here are our two Sparks, welcoming us into the assembly.

We're just waiting for the assembly to start.

Many students spoke and sang at the assembly.

We watched a slideshow showcasing members of the Brooksbank extended family.  I got a little misty when my Grandad's picture was on the screen.

And, at the very end of the assembly, 2 members of each class placed poppies on a wreath.

I was so proud of each person in our class. Everybody was respectful, thoughtful and listened so carefully to all that was said. We had a chat about what "peace" means when we came back to the classroom and they really understand!

Poppies and a Bit of Sharing

We did art for a good part of the day today.  We First drew our backgrounds and then painted a wash of colour over top.  Then we made centres for our flowers and glued them on.  I think they are just beautiful!

We will be attending the Remembrance Day Assembly tomorrow after recess.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Some kids brought items to share for G today.  If they didn't share today and would like to, we will also have sharing tomorrow.

Take a look at our artwork, it is hanging in the hallway if you'd like to take a closer look.

Ice is Nice

I had to run out right after school yesterday for a dentist appointment so I wasn't able to share our photos.  The first part of this post is from yesterday, our "F" sharing....

Today, when we went out for recess we found ice on the playground...so exciting!

Reminder: Monday is a Curriculum Implementation Day (no school for students).  Also, I will be away on Tuesday at a conference in New Westminster.  There will be a teacher on call here with the class.  Please remember that Tuesday and Thursday are 2:00 dismissal days (just as Wednesday always is).
thank you

It's November!

Happy first day of November.  We were all a little sleepy today, but full of stories of last night's Halloween adventures.  I didn't manage to take any photos today.  I just wanted to write to let you know that we will share F items tomorrow (I know it's not our regular day, but we didn't manage to get around to it today, and I forgot to send a reminder home yesterday in the midst of all the excitement).  Please help your child find a household item beginning with F to show to the class tomorrow.  Thank you!
