Today, Carol came to visit us and she brought some friends to teach us all about safety.
This is Elmer, he taught us all about pedestrian safety.
He told us what to do if our ball rolls onto the street....ask a trusted adult for help.
We learned about cross walks. We should stop, look and listen and point the direction we want to go so that drivers know which way we are headed. He also taught us a game called "sweet and sour" to help make sure that we are making eye contact with drivers before crossing the street. Ask your child to teach you "sweet and sour".
Here's Elmer pointing the direction he would like to go when crossing the street.
Here's Carol showing us how to play "sweet and sour".
We learned what the colours of the traffic light mean.
We also learned all about the pedestrian signals.
Elmer loves to go to the skateboard park. He told us all about the safety equipment that we should wear when biking/skateboarding/scootering.
We learned where we should walk if there is no sidewalk (on the side of the road that you are facing traffic).
It's good to bring along a flashlight on dark days or in the evening.
It's good to wear a reflector so that cars can see us.
Then we met Ruff....Ruff's favourite word is "click".
He told us all about seatbelt safety and also how to best wear our helmets when biking.
We also talked about who are the helpful people in our community that can help us stay safe.
