A Fun Day Was Had By All

Today was Fun Day and I'm sure the kids will tell you all about it!  It was tricky to get photos of everything and everyone but I did the best I could.
We did a parade around the school and around Loutet Park in our colour groups.

Here's a look at each team's banner.

Then we gathered on the field to listen to all the cheers.

After recess, we went to our stations.  We went wherever we wanted and had lots of fun!

It looks like a lot of the kids in these photos are really patriotic. I asked them to put their hands over their name tags.

Then we gathered on the field after lunch to watch hula hoop competitions, the tug o'war and a water balloon toss.

Here we are competing in the hula hoop competition.

Phew!  Many thanks to Mrs. Dolan (one of our Grade 6/7 teachers) for organizing such a fun filled, successful day for all kids.  As we were lining up to go home this afternoon, there was a happy "buzz" of conversation, all saying "I loved Fun Day".  That's what it's all about!  Thanks to all of the parents who were able to come and take part today too (face painters and spectators!)

Please check your email for information about tomorrow's field trip....another exciting day tomorrow!

Coding

This afternoon, we learned how to code.  This is something new that's been introduced into our curriculum (under the subject called "applied design, skills and technologies" or "ADST".  Miss Harstone put out a piece of cheese (toy cheese) and we were mice.  We had to work our way through the rectangles on the carpet and try to reach the cheese.  We each took turns adding another move until we reached the cheese, counting all the while. We followed the code and then added to it.  When we got to a corner, we had to make sure that we said "turn" so that we knew not to continue walking forward.  What fun, and what great learning!

Our Last Young Actors Class

Today, we had our last of three drama classes with Jared from the Young Actors Project.

The first exercise we did was a pattern exercise.  We took turns clapping around the circle and then we clapped to different patterns.

Then we made our bodies into different shapes and objects.  This is a balloon.

Then we got together with a partner and made our two bodies into one letter of the alphabet.  This is "A".

then we worked together to develop a story

then we sat knee to knee with a partner and told our own stories.  "Once upon a time there was a king..."  "Once upon a time there was a beaver...."  "Once upon a time there was a hamburger...."

Then we turned into popcorn kernels.

The popcorn kernels slowly heated up and then started popping.

Then we were put into two groups, one group was people and the other group was puppies.

The puppies had to do something interesting and then the people chose which puppy they would like the best.

Then we switched groups.

Finally, we worked in two different groups to act things out for the other groups to guess.  These girls are at the candy store.

These boys are at the grocery store.

These girls are magicians.

Rock stars.

Penguins.

We had such a great time!

Reminder: Tomorrow is Fun Day.  Please see the email that I just sent with information about the day.

Thursday is our field trip to the Artists for Kids Gallery.  We will be leaving as soon as the bell rings in the morning.  Please ensure that your child arrives on time.
