Hoppy Easter

Wow, what a day!  It was the final day of Reading Awareness Week and kids were welcome to dress up as their favourite character from a book or to wear their pyjamas.

This morning, some kids chose to make an Easter Bunny craft.  Others decided to play instead.

As part of Reading Awareness Week, we did a story time "teacher swap".  Miss Beleski came and read one of her favourite books to us and Miss Harstone and Ms Spofforth went to Miss Beleski's class to share a story.

Later in the day we made an Easter chick.  Here we are putting the finishing touches on our chicks.

We attended a Reading Awareness Week assembly.  Some grade 5 students recited some poems that they had memorized and did an amazing job.  They spoke with such expression, confidence and enthusiasm.

Over the course of the week, each class had a chance to contribute to a collaborative story.  The grade 6/7s started the story (inspired by a basket of "props") and our class wrote the second paragraph. Because there are 17 classes at Brooksbank, the story ended up being really long with lots of twists and turns.  Miss Lee read the entire story to the school.  It was VERY entertaining.

Then we watched a slideshow of photos that were taken over the week of kids engaged in different reading activities.

Miss Harstone set up a suppose Easter egg hunt, here we are ready to get started!

There are lots of fuzzy pictures of us hunting for eggs because we were moving pretty quickly!

Then we gathered all of the eggs together and worked together to decide how to best share them amongst everyone in the class.

At the end, we had 113 eggs and each student ended up with one plastic egg and 6 chocolate eggs. We also did a lot of math problem solving and counting along he way.  We ate one at school and saved the rest for home.

Here's a look at our finished chicks.  Please look in your child's backpack, we thought you might like to have some Easter decorations at home.

We had some more family photo sharing.

And one more "W" sharing that didn't happen on Wednesday, whistle.

More chicks...

Some pretty awesome building and teamwork and......

 a pirate chick! Arrrrr!
Happy Easter everyone, see you on Tuesday.
