Learning About Light

Today, we read continued to explore light.  We read two books.  One was fiction, "Nothing Sticks Like a Shadow" and the other was non-fiction, "All About Light".  We learned the terms transparent, translucent and opaque (but we thought it was pretty funny to call it "oh pancake"....which actually helps us remember that opaque means that light can't pass through it....just like a pancake!)  Then we went on a little walk around the school with our iPads and looked for things that were transparent, translucent and opaque.  This was our introduction to these concepts.  I challenged the kids to look around at home and see if they can find one example of each.

We also had a lockdown drill today.  The kids did an excellent job staying quiet and still.  It was very quick and went well.

Tomorrow is T sharing day.

Energizing Yoga

Today, when Miss Frogley came in to teach us yoga, she noticed a lot of sleepy faces.  Sometimes it takes a little while to adjust to being back at school after being away for 3 days.  So she decided to focus on ways yoga can help us feel more energized.  We learned the Lion pose (which was funny because we were drawing lions right before she came into the class!).

"Lion" pose in action!

Then we did a sequence of several poses during the "sun salutation".

Here are some happy faces from the end of the day.

100s of Photos of Our Hundredth Day

We started the day decorating a celebratory crown.

Then, we got together in small groups and challenged ourselves to build a structure with 100 cups.

Then we cha-cha-cha'ed through the school counting by 10s to 100!

The big kids counted in French wth us.

After recess, we made necklaces with 100 fruit loops.  We grouped them in groups of 10 and marked every group.

Such concentrated counting!

Here's a look at our finished necklaces, and our proud faces!

Yikes!  These the blogging website dropped these pictures in the wrong place in this post and I don't have it in me to start again, so here they are.  I took photos of the kids last week and transformed them (well an app transformed them) into much older people!  Perhaps this is what they will look like when they are 100 years old!

Now let's get back to our regular shiny, happy people...
more necklaces

phew! what a great day!  Tomorrow is a professional day, no school for students.  I will be in workshops all day.  Have a great weekend! See you on Monday!
