Pattern-Palooza!!!

This is a very "picture heavy" post, so before you start scrolling through all the pictures…

PHOTO DAY is on Monday.  This is when we get our individual photos taken.

Today, we explored patterns.  We built patterns with the kids in the class.  Here is a Girl, boy, girl, boy pattern….

Then we got a little more complicated…this is a "solid pants, patterned pants, solid pants, patterned pants" pattern...

This is a "short sleeve, long sleeve, short sleeve, long sleeve" pattern…

Then, once we'd had some time to explore the concept as a group, using our bodies to build patterns, we moved on to some other materials.  We built patterns with links, unifix cubes and wooden cubes.  For some students, this is a new concept; for others, they are ready to expand on their knowledge and try some more complicated patterns.  After we finished building, we projected these pictures onto our classroom TV screen and read all of the patterns that our classmates created to reinforce our understanding and celebrate our successes.

This student recreated our calendar pattern using links.  As you go about your activities this weekend, see if you and your child can find some patterns around you….you may be surprised to notice that patterns are everywhere! It might be fun to go on a pattern hunt around your house.

We know that this isn't a pattern, but she really wanted to show her dad this one too….(I'm starting to notice a pattern!  a really lovely pattern!)

Then, this afternoon, we continued to work on our first art project of our Kindergarten year. Stay tuned…one of these days we will finish them!

Have a fantastic weekend.  Please congratulate your kids for such a great week.  They are learning our classroom routines and expectations really quickly and I know they must be tired from working so hard all week.
