Dear
Kindergarten Parents/Guardians,
February
27th is Multicultural Day at Brooksbank. On this day we will honour the fact that each
of us has a unique heritage comprised of different traditions, clothing, music,
languages and foods. We will be participating in a number of events
celebrating multiculturalism. Students
are encouraged to wear clothing that reflects culture.
The
Kindergarten classes will also have a potluck
lunch. We are asking each family to
contribute a cultural dish to share with the rest of the class.
Some
examples of food items might be as simple as breads, pastries, dips and fresh
fruits, to things requiring a little more preparation like sushi, curry,
etc. There should only be enough for children to sample so large
quantities are not required.
When you are preparing, please keep the following in mind:
• NO NUTS, please
• We will not be able to refrigerate or reheat dishes
• It would be most helpful if you could pre-cut / pre-portion your
dish
• Please provide a serving utensil, if possible
• Please label the bottom of your dish (and serving utensil) with
your child’s name
• It would be lovely if you could provide a short description of your
dish, the country of origin, and ingredients
To ensure that we have a balance of healthy
foods and sweets, there will be a sign up sheet posted outside the classroom
door.
Students
are asked to each bring a plate/bowl and cutlery for personal use.
Parents
are welcome to come in and help serve the dishes at 12:10.
In
addition to the potluck items, I recommend that you send a light lunch for your
child on that day, just in case, as they are only sampling these foods.
Please
inform me if your child has any food allergies.
Please contact me if you have any
questions.
Thanks
so much,
Claire
Spofforth
