Multicultural Day at Brooksbank

We celebrated all things multicultural today.  We joined the rest of the students in the gym between recess and lunch.  Each class shared a dance that they have been learning in Music class with Ms. Dunkley.  The dances originated in many different countries.

One of the Grade 7 students read an article that she wrote that was published in the North Shore News last week.

to start the assembly, the whole school got up and danced

Then it was our turn to perform for everyone.

I'm trying to add some video clips (I hope they play!)….this seems to be taking forever!  I will try again on Monday if I can't get them to work….sorry!

another whole school dance …. "the Cha Cha Slide"

Then it was time to head back to our class for our Multicultural potluck lunch.  Thank you to all of you for your incredible contributions.  The kids had a wonderful feast of many new foods.  I was so impressed with the good table manners and kind words.

If I was thinking ahead, I would have taken photos at the beginning of lunch.  Here is a little look at some of the dishes towards the end of lunch.

Our lunch was such a success because of these three ladies!  They helped serve all of the dishes and make sure that all the kids had everything they needed!  Thank you so much for your help today!  We couldn't have done it without you.

Want to Join Us?

Next Friday (March 6) we will be walking up to Sutherland Secondary School to watch the 2015 Provincial High School Gymnastics Competition.  We are planning to leave Brooksbank at 1:00 and probably start walking back shortly after 2:00.  It would be great to have 1 or 2 parents join us for the walk and to stay and help supervise (accompany students to washrooms etc).  If you are interested and able, please send me an email letting me know and I will send you more information closer to the time.

thanks!

Farm/Garden Visit

Wow, we are lucky!  We got to visit Loutet Farm today and learn all about getting the farm ready for Spring.  We removed straw from the garden beds (they don't need to be kept warm anymore) and moved the straw to the walkways in between the beds.  We looked at the garlic plants that have been growing since November (and will continue to grow until July) and measured them to see how much they grow in between visits.  We also did some weeding to prepare the beds for planting.  We had a little tour of the greenhouse and felt how much warmer it was inside.  We saw some baby radish plants growing in the greenhouse.  They only take one month to grow.  I took LOTS of pictures because everything was so interesting.  I hope you enjoy looking at our time at the farm…..

on our way to the farm, we stopped to look at Brooksbank's bee habitat.  So interesting!

this is Jason, he teaches us all about the farm

some of the farm's volunteers helped us with our jobs
