Tenzi and Cleaning up the Grounds

Today, we learned a new math game. I taught 4 kids and then they taught 4 kids and then they taught the rest of the class until we were all able to play on our own. This game is a great one for quick number recognition. Using 10 dice each, each player rolls all 10 dice and looks for the number that he/she has the most of (let's say he/she has 4 dice with #2), he/she sets those 4 dice aside and rolls the remaining 6 dice to see if he/she can get any more 2s. He/she would keep rolling the remaining dice until they all land on 2, when all 10 dice are #2, the player shouts Tenzi!

It's fast paced and fun!

This afternoon, we went outside with our buddy class and cleaned up the school grounds. We used tongs and picked up garbage wrappers that we found laying on the ground.

Simple Machines

The Grade 5s in Division 6 shared their simple machine projects that they've been working on. We went into the library this morning to look at all of the projects. So cool!

Such a beautiful afternoon.

We spent some time today talking about the Northern Lights, some of the kids are really interested to know how they are formed. If your child asks, perhaps you could spend some time trying to see if you can find the answer (?)

Gung Hay Fat Choi!

Here's another 100 project.

Today, in celebration of Chinese New Year, we made paper lanterns. The kids worked so carefully on their cutting and the lanterns turned out beautifully.

Then, when our lanterns were all done, we tried using chopsticks. We tried to see if we could pick up pompoms using two sticks. It took A LOT of concentration!

Here is one more 100 project...counting by 5s.

Have a great weekend.

Some reminders for next week: Wednesday will be O sharing day and there is no school next Friday (the 23rd) it's a Professional Development Day.
