Last Night and Reminder for Tomorrow

Important reminder: Tomorrow is Pyjama  (or is it Pajama??! Let's just call it PJ) Day!  Kids can wear their PJs to school (please continue to send warm outer layers for outside time) and they can bring one stuffie to snuggle with during the day, if they wish.

Here are some photos of our evening Christmas concert last night.

Here we are waiting in the wings for our turn on the stage.

Getting ready for our opening number, Jingle Bells.

Here we are singing "Suzy Snowflake".

And, at the end of the concert, here we are getting ready to sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas".

Singing, Firefighters and Concert Time!

Here we are at our Christmas Carol Sing Along this morning.  Just so you know, the kids who play the instruments volunteer to do so.  Not everyone wants to have a turn, that's why you might see some of the same kids having more than one turn.  They do a great job keeping the beat!

This morning, we had a visit from some of our District of North Vancouver firefighters.  They came in to talk to us about fire safety and to show us what it looks like when they are wearing all of their fire gear.  (I heard one of the firefighters whisper to another of the firefighters "this is the best class we've ever visited"....they really are!)

Stop, Drop and Roll

I can't remember what one of the kids said here, but the firefighter was so amazed with our knowledge that he collapsed on the floor (they kept commenting that they didn't really need to visit this class because we already know so much about how to stay safe in case of a fire).

Practicing "stop, drop and roll"

Practicing "get low and go" (if there is smoke in the room)

Then the firefighter showed us how they put on their gear and let us see what they look like with it all on.  They also let us hear how they sound with their mask on and the air tank connected.

Then, this afternoon, we did a run through of the Christmas Concert.  We start the show with all of the kids singing Jingle Bells.  We are sitting on the edge of the stage.

Then, when it's our turn to sing Suzy Snowflake, we get to stand on the risers on the stage.

At the end of the show, all the kids sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" (I didn't get a photo of that)

The kids did such a wonderful job. And, we get to do it all again tonight!  See you at the classroom between 6:30 and 6:45.  Kids should dress in "holiday best".  You will pick your child up from the classroom when we are all finished.

See you in a couple of hours!

Tuesday Festivities

Morning sing along in the open area.....

Playing instruments, singing and being a reindeer for the "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" song.

This guy spent his free time today writing numbers to 70 (!)

Today, we found out that we've been in school for 60 days.  We made a new bundle of 10 (so we now have 6 bundles of 10) and then we did the conga!  Cha cha cha cha cha CHA!

Right out into the hallway and then we got all of our snow gear on and went outside for recess.

This afternoon we painted our paper tubes which we will turn into something spectacular tomorrow.  We now have enough tubes, thanks for sending them in to the class.

We will not be doing sharing tomorrow (too much going on!)

Here are a few reminders about our concert tomorrow.  We will be doing a dress rehearsal/matinee at 1:00.  This is a chance for the kids to watch each other and for audience members who were not able to get tickets for the evening performance.  Kids do not have to wear their "holiday best" for the daytime performance (but it might be nice to wear something a bit festive).  For the evening performance, please bring your child to the classroom between 6:30 and 6:45.  Please don't come earlier than 6:30 as I may not here then.  Students should wear "holiday best" for the evening performance. Kids will stay in our classroom until it's our turn to perform. Please come back to the classroom at the end of the concert.  I will only dismiss students when I see his/her parent(s).  If you have any questions, please come in and chat with me in the morning and I'll do my best to answer them.  If you know that your child will be unable to attend the evening performance, please let me know.  You might want to look for the song "Suzy Snowflake" on Youtube and encourage your child to practice the words a couple of times this evening.

Oh, we are also (hopefully) going to have a firetruck visit tomorrow morning! I say "hopefully" because if there is an emergency, they have to save our visit for another time.

I think that's all my news for today.  Thank you to everyone for sending in wrapping paper.  I ended up with more than enough and was even able to send some back home.  You really are the most supportive bunch. Thanks again!
