Sorting and Growth Patterns

Here are a few photos of our morning building time.  The kids were really engaged today and there were lots of different things happening….building structures (some of them were quite complex), creating letters with blocks, making bouquets of flowers, and other interesting creations.

After we did some number printing (a straight line down is lots of fun, because it makes the number 1), we sorted lots of different materials.  Some kids were sorting by colour, others by size, others by shape.

Throughout the day, Miss Cochrane worked with each child to create a spooky skeleton!  She was able to have a little chat with each child and they were able to get to know each other a bit.

Here are some more sorting photos….

Then, later in the day, after we did some printing practice (capital and lowercase Ee), we experimented with growth patterns (patterns that don't repeat but grow….one blue, yellow, 2 blues, yellow, 3 blues, yellow, 4 blues, yellow and so on).  Here are some photos showing what we are working on….

Finally, the sign up sheets have been posted outside the office for conferences that are taking place next week.  This is a chance for me to meet with you (parents) and talk about how things are progressing for your child at school.  We like to meet with parents before the first term report cards come home in early December.  These conferences are 15 minutes long.  Students need not attend these conferences.  If the times provided do not work for you, please let me know and we will arrange another meeting time.

Reminder, tomorrow is F sharing day!

Gym Fun and Introducing Miss Cochrane

We went into the gym today and played "Freeze Tag".  The kids worked so well moving in such a large space with so many other people moving around at the same time.  Everybody had a turn to be "it".

Then we had a bit of time working on our ball handling skills.  We worked on bouncing and catching and throwing and catching.  Again, I was so impressed with how the kids moved safely around the gym while having fun trying some new skills and practicing some older skills.

Today, we welcomed Miss Cochrane into our class.  Miss Cochrane is a student teacher from Australia.  She is going to be with us every day for the next three weeks and will be teaching some lessons during her time here.  She shared a little slide show with the kids, helping us get to know her.  Please ask your child some things they learned about Australia and Miss Cochrane today.  Also, please feel welcome to come in and introduce yourself to Miss Cochrane, she would be happy to meet you!

Finally, we had our first fire drill of the year today.  You're probably getting bored of hearing this…but I was so proud of how well the class did.  They do such a great job of listening to and following the expectations during these drills.

This Wednesday is F sharing…I'll try and remind you tomorrow too!

No School Tomorrow

I didn't manage to take any photos today…I don't know why!  We were busy doing lots of different things, I just forgot to capture the moments.

But I just wanted to remind you that there is no school for students tomorrow.  It's a provincial Professional Development Day.

Have a great weekend!  See you on Monday!
