On Friday, we had our second ribbon assembly. Here are a couple of proud kids after they received their ribbons.
We went back into the forest on Friday, this time to look for signs of animals.
We gathered together and looked around us to see what kind of evidence we could find to show that animals live in the forest.
We listened carefully to hear signs of animals.
Then we explored the forest with magnifying glasses to see if we could see more evidence of animals.
As we were looking closely at a hole in a log, this little guy popped right out. Not only did we find evidence (the hole) ,we also found the creature!
Then we drew about our discoveries.
Today, after reading a book about looking closely in the forest, we had a conversation about pine cones. We learned that not all cones are pine cones; only the cones that come from pine trees are pine cones. We learned that there are douglas fir cones, spruce cones, hemlock cones (among others). Then we learned how to spot a hemlock tree. It has a head that droops down. When we went outside this afternoon, we noticed a LOT of hemlock trees surrounding our school. Ask your child why the hemlock droops its head, see if he/she can tell you the story that I told to the class today.
A lovely artistic interpretation of a beautiful hemlock.
Tomorrow is Y sharing day.
