Reading and Math

Today, Mrs. Robertson (our vice-principal) came to the open area to read us all a story for Focus on Reading week.

Then we went back to our classroom and rotated through 5 math centres.

We played Tenzie.

We built numbers using tens and ones (which were on pictures of carrots, that we matched to the number on the dirt card.

We practiced writing out numbers, saying the poems to help us remember the formation of the number.

We matched tens and ones to more numbers.

and we figured out a counting pattern and matched the farmer with the correct number to the pattern.

Then we rotated through all of the centres until we all had a turn with each activity.

One more item for T sharing....tablespoon and teaspoon

Later in the morning, we got into "talking circles" with some of our classmates and had a talking rock. As part of our study of families, we talked about things that we like to do with out families. When we were finished, we switched groups and shared with new people.

Finally, we had some grade 7 friends come and read to us for Focus on Reading week this afternoon. It's been so nice to share so many books with so many people this week!

Tomorrow is PJ day and we will be reading with flashlights. If you choose to send a flashlight to school, please make sure that it is labeled with your child's name.
