Earthquake Drill #2 and Pumpkins

Today was the "Great Shakeout", every school in the province (? I think) had an earthquake drill today.  We did our "duck, cover and hold" drill and then we evacuated the school.  This was a new step for us and the kids did so well.  They took the drill very seriously and were quiet the whole time!  I was very proud of them.

Here we are lined up on the field during our evacuation part of the drill.

It looks like we are still participating in an earthquake drill, but we are not….now we are pumpkin seeds.  Can you see our pointy tops?  We learned all about the life cycle of a pumpkin today and made some connections to other life cycles that we know about (frogs, people).  Here we are acting our the pumpkin life cycle with our bodies.

shoot (notice the tiny, baby leaves)

vine and flower…ask your child what the funny word for a pumpkin flower is.

big, ripe pumpkins

Then we went back to our tables and drew the life cycle of a pumpkin in a little booklet.  These came home in your child's home envelope today.  They are pretty amazing!  Please look at them together and ask your child questions about the life cycle.
