4 Corners and Sorting

We were unable to go into the gym today because it was being used as a polling location.  So we learned a new game that we can play in our classroom.  It's called 4 corners and the kids move around the room and get into one of the 4 corners.  Then one child (who has his/her eyes closed) calls out "corner #1" (or 2 or 3 or 4).  If you are in the corner that is called, you are out and we keep playing until there is one child left.  We played a couple of times and really got the hang of it.  It doesn't look like a very active game from the photos, but these are pictures of when we are standing as quietly as possible in our corners!

In math today, we worked on sorting.  I put out a bunch of different materials and asked the kids to sort them. Then I moved around seeing if I could guess their sorting rule.  This is something that you can do with household items.  Group them together and see if your child can guess your sorting rule and then ask him/her to sort them and see if you can guess the rule.  I will be introducing the word "attribute" as we talk about our sorting rules.  "Which attribute did you sort by? size? colour? shape? etc."

It looks like we're in for some rain.  It's a great idea to have an extra pair of shoes that stay at school for rainy days.  Organizing boots and shoes at the end of the day is a bit of a challenge.  If there is a pair of shoes here, the kids can wear boots to school and wear them home and not have to carry the extra shoes back and forth.  Also, even if it looks like it isn't going to rain in the morning, the weather may change during the day.  Please send a weather proof jacket to school every day.  Hoodies soak up the rain pretty quickly and take a long time to dry.  Thanks for your help with this!

Have a great night!
