Halloween Fun!

Wow, what a day!  We had a Halloween filled day and had a lot of fun.  We started the day with Miss Cochrane painting our hands for an art project that we finished later on.

can you guess what they are going to be?

we made some jack o'lanterns and practiced our cutting skills

we added more details to our hand prints

Here are a few photos of our Halloween costumes.  Thanks to those of you who were able to come and help with costumes.  That was really helpful.  The kids did SO well during the parade and dance in the gym.

we're getting ready to learn the steps to the Monster Mash!

When we came back in the class, we played with some slime (I'm sorry if your child's hands are more colorful than when they left the house this morning.  It's food coloring and will come off….eventually)

Here are some of our finished vampires, please look in your child's home envelope for the finished product.

Also, thank you to one of our classmates for the little Halloween treat package.  You can ask your child who brought the treats…..we all said a big thank you already!

Have a wonderful Halloween, I can't wait to hear all of the stories on Monday!

After recess, we worked on alphabet stations.  For half an hour, the kids moved through 5 different stations working on different activities and skills.

here, we are practicing printing the letter Ee suing Boogie Boards

Here, we are printing Ee on white boards

Here we are sorting 3D shapes according to different attributes (colour, shape, size)

Here we are putting the letters in alphabet order.

Here, we worked with Miss Cochrane on rhyming words.

This is a close up of the activity.  There are pictures on the side of the card (such as "clock") and then there are connecting blocks with pictures on them.  The kids look for words that rhyme with clock (such as lock and sock) and connect them together.  This was our first time doing this activity.  We'll be doing it again soon.  If you're reading stories together and you come across rhyming words, spend some time and talk about them with your child.

And now here are a whole bunch of photos as we moved through the stations…..

Even Mrs. Winkler was practicing her Es

Right before lunch, we spent quite some time getting ready to go outside in the rain, everyone had his/her boots and coat on, zippers were zipped and then we found out it was an inside day.  So, we spent the next little bit of time unzipping and putting on shoes again.  Thanks for sending your children with such great rain gear.  We will be needing it soon I'm sure!

Thanks for signing up for parent/teacher conferences.  I think there are only about 6 families who have not yet signed up.  If you aren't able to come in to sign up, let me know and we can arrange a time via email.

I know a school email came home regarding Friday's festivities.  We will be having a costume parade at 1:15 (ish).  Kids are being asked to change into costumes after lunch.  We ask that they do not wear costumes all day because they may get damaged.  You are welcome to come in just after lunch (around 1:00) and help your child into his/her costume.  Otherwise, Miss Cochrane and I will be able to help those who need it.  The school has asked that students NOT bring weapons of any kind, and that they NOT wear masks.  We will parade around the school and then finish in the gym.  This should all be over before around 1:45 I imagine and then we will come back to the class and have our regular centre time.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
