Syllable Sort and Weaving

I found a couple of photos from yesterday that I forgot that I took.  Ms Frogley taught us a new pose. I can't remember the exact name but I think it was called the "joy pose".

Today, we continued out exploration of syllables.  The kids worked in groups of 3 or 4 to sort objects into syllables.  First they created a sorting mat, they drew 4 circles and numbered the circles 1-4.  Then they determined how many syllables each of their items had (butterfly=3, pickle=2, cake=1) and sorted them on their mats.  In the photos, you may see the kids using their arms to count out the syllables.  You might ask them to show you what that's all about at home. Once each group was finished sorting, they moved to the other groups to see if they agreed with the work that was already done, counting syllables all the while.  Finally, to clean up, the kids sorted the objects based on the beginning sounds (ink, igloo, insect and invitation all went in the "i" tub).

We are exploring patterns through weaving and today we learned how to weave paper.  This was fiddly work that required a lot of concentration and perseverance and the kids did amazingly well.  I thought that it might take more than one session to complete, but we were able to finish today.  Scroll down for photos of the finished products.

Finally, Miss Harstone started an art project.  She worked with a few students at a time.  Stay tuned for more photos as we progress.

We love singing a song called "One Green Jellybean".  It has a lot of fun actions that get trickier and trickier as the song goes along.  Here are some of the actions.....

"pat your head"

"don't eat the green ones"

"kick your foot"

I don't know about the kids, but I'm certainly tired from our very busy day!  We also had an inside lunch time because the rain was pelting down.

Tomorrow is V sharing day.

Please check your child home envelope for the field trip notice and for some information from Miss Harstone.
