Just a Few

We are watering every day and things are starting to happen!

Our sign in board looks a little bit different now. We are doing a little bit of goal setting related to the core competencies in the curriculum. The core competencies are communication, thinking (critical and creative), positive personal and cultural identity, personal awareness and responsibility, and social responsibility. The core competencies are the same from Kindergarten to Grade 12, they are an integral part of the learning in all curriculum areas. In order to set personal goals, we need to be able to self-assess our own abilities related to these core competencies. We have been reading a book that relates the skills encompassed by the core competencies to 6 Northwest animals. We are learning about the traits of the animals and then reflecting on ourselves as learners. When the kids "sign in" the morning, I am asking them to think about the animal that they would most like to be like that day? Which traits they would like to work on. We are also engaging in a self-assessment activity related to this that will be shared with you soon. More animals will be added to our sign in board as we learn about them.
