Artists for Kids Outreach Program

We were so fortunate to have Amelia from Artist For Kids come and spend the morning with us teaching us all about art. We looked at some images of artwork by Tiko Kerr. He creates collages and uses lots of interesting shapes, patterns and colours. We were inspired by him and worked on a project with many of the same elements.

We took a small piece of another piece of art and cut it into shapes and glued the shapes in the space within a stencil.

then we learned about different properties of materials: we learned about transparent

translucent

and opaque

we learned to colour with oil pastels so that the colours are opaque

we coloured the space within the stencil with different colours, shapes, and patterns

we tried to cover all of the white of the paper

then we learned about how we could add hair and necks and shoulders

then we painted the hair and shoulders. We learned about warm and cool colours. Up until this step, we have been using only warm colours.

then we learned about cool colours. We drew a horizon line with our black pastel and then painted the top and bottom of the background using cool colours.

here are the finished pieces...so interesting and effective!
