Busy Little Bakers

Oh we were so lucky to have some family members come and spend the morning (and afternoon...later in this post) with us today. They helped us bake gingerbread people and then decorate them when they were all done! We all had a turn to do something to help put the ingredients together. It was hard to get photos of everyone, but we were all involved.

the classroom smelled SOOOO good!

In between all of the cookie making, we went to music class. When I went to pick the class up, they had a surprise for me. The looked like they might be hiding something behind their backs....

Then they started singing the first verse of "Jingle Bells" (dashing through the snow...)

Then, when they got to the chorus (jingle bells, jingle bells...) They brought their hands out from behind their backs and jingles bells as they sang.

Our buddy class, the grade 3s, watched us sing too.

Now the cookies are all ready to decorate!

Here's a look at the finished masterpieces.

Who knew cookies could have so much personality??!!??

We had another special guest this afternoon. One of our classmates' moms came in to tell us about the traditions they have to celebrate Hanukkah, the festival of light, which started on Sunday. We learned about the menorah and the oil that was supposed to last one night but miraculously lasted 8 nights. We also learned that much of the food that is cooked to help celebrate Hanukkah is cooked in oil because of the importance of the oil. This mom made us some delicious treats that are much like jelly donuts, and we each got to taste a bit of Hanukkah! (I meant to the a photo of them but didn't mange to ...sorry)

We also learned about the dreidel and had a chance to hold one and maybe even give one a spin.

On behalf of the class, I just wanted to thank each of the adults who came into our classroom today to share skills and knowledge and time with us. We are so fortunate to have such a supporting network of family members to help us learn and grow. Thank you!
